Melbourne is infamous for its love for Monochrome and all things beige, black, brown, and deep blue when it comes to work wear. It is almost like a uniform of sorts without being officially so. Now imagine a girl who lived her whole growing up years in Mumbai lands in Melbourne with her colourful wardrobe to be faced by Monotone vision in this sea of people she sees in Melbourne city all heading to work. I kept making mental notes about how people dressed so as to prepare myself for corporate life in the years to come.
I decided early on that I will not be giving up my love for colour, prints and accessories even if I move into the corporate life. What is work wear without some spunk! It would only be monotonous and boring and you will not realise the true potential of your wardrobe staples unless you can wear them both to work and out of it. I was determined to make work wear fun!
In today’s Outfit of the Day I decided to play with print so kept the colours monotone.
I am wearing Pencil skirt with all over tiny polka dots. It is important that your skirt fits you well and yet is not too snug or too short. Hemlines should not be too high and necklines should not be too low. Feel free to wear opaque leggings or tights if you are unsure of the hemline of a dress or skirt while at work.
I am wearing an A line blouse in black and to add a tad bit of drama I added a stack of pearl wristbands interspersed with steely black bangles with charms on them. The pearl bracelets match the polka dots on the skirt and keep it fun.
Prints can be overwhelming so if unsure start with small prints or prints in your accessories and then move to printed tops/ bottoms. Good to pair a print with a solid colour or neutrals. It was deliberate on my part to keep the rest of the look monotone and wear black and greys to balance the printed polka dotted skirt.
