Mumbai to Melbourne wishes everyone a Happy and Prosperous Diwali and New Year.
It was a beautiful and sunny day in Melbourne and I could venture out without a jacket. Each piece of the outfit are separates and have been gifted or purchased at separate points in time. The Tunic/ Anarkali style kurta was a gift from my Mum in 2013. We were shopping around in Mumbai and then she spotted this Kurta on a mannequin in Pantaloons and loved it. I seldom buy whites and reds especially in Indian wear. My reason is the whites are difficult to wash and maintain and the reds run colour. So they are my last choice. Since this was a combination of both I had my doubts.
My Mum persuaded me as the quality of the fabric was fantastic. That convinced me to accept it as a gift however it sat in my wardrobe for nearly 2 years without being worn. As I said I am a sceptic at times. However I must say this fabric falls very well and does not run colour at all. I regret not wearing it for this long now!
I wore this gorgeous Beige red and Rust Anarkali style Kurta and decided to team it with orange leggings/ churidar style bottoms. The rust orange churidar matches the orange in the neckline of the kurta.
I added a cotton-silk dupatta (scarf) which was a gift from my Mum in Law when she visited us this year. The gorgeous blood red with gold lining on the dupatta gave the look a regal touch.
Since the look was bright and heavy I decided to keep the accessories minimal. I wore red studs, orange stone ring and red and gold bangles. Finally added red pumps to complete the look. Since I was heading for Ganesha Aarti and Pooja celebrations I did not carry a bag/ clutch with me.
A red bindi and a swipe of my favourite red lipstick was all it took to finish the look.
A simple outfit without a lot of bling can be perfect for the festivities leading up to Diwali. Teaming existing separates together in festive colours such as Red, Rust, Maroon, Deep Pinks and Purples and adding statement accessories can give your ensemble a regal look.
